New Modular Loading Bay Installation Completed for National Distribution Centre
EVICK successfully completed the installation of a six-bay modular loading system for a national distribution facility, delivering the project one week ahead of programme while maintaining full site operations throughout the construction works.
Six-Bay Modular Loading System Successfully Delivered Ahead of Programme
EVICK has recently completed the installation of a new six-bay modular loading system for one of our long-standing manufacturing customers at a busy distribution facility.
The project involved transforming an existing external trailer loading operation into a modern enclosed loading bay, significantly improving operational efficiency, safety and protection from the weather.
Despite the complexity of the installation and the site's ongoing daily operations, the project was successfully completed one week ahead of the agreed programme.
A Live Operational Site
One of the biggest challenges on this project was that the distribution centre remained fully operational throughout the installation.
Daily vehicle movements continued while our engineers carried out the construction and installation works, requiring careful planning, communication and coordination with the customer and other contractors.
The project was delivered in accordance with the Construction (Design and Management) Regulations (CDM), with detailed planning and safe systems of work ensuring that both the construction activities and the customer's day-to-day operations could continue safely.
Working within a live logistics environment requires experience, flexibility and close collaboration, and we are proud of how smoothly the project progressed from start to finish.
The Existing Operation
Prior to the project, trailers were loaded and unloaded externally at yard level.
This meant that loading activities were exposed to the weather throughout the year, reducing efficiency during poor conditions and creating a less controlled working environment for warehouse staff.
The customer wanted a modern loading solution that would improve productivity while providing safer, more efficient access to trailers.
The New Modular Loading Bay
The completed installation provides a purpose-built modular loading system designed to improve both operational efficiency and working conditions.
The new facility includes:
- Six telescopic dock levellers
- Retractable dock shelters
- Heavy-duty wheel guides
- Access ramps to the modular loading platform
- Two pallet safety gates connecting the loading platform to the warehouse storage areas
Together, these components create a modern loading environment that allows trailers to be loaded safely and efficiently from inside the building.
Telescopic Dock Levellers
The six telescopic dock levellers provide safe and reliable access into trailers of varying sizes.
Operators can now load and unload directly from the warehouse floor, allowing forklifts to move efficiently between the building and the trailer while maintaining safe working practices.
Retractable Dock Shelters
Each loading position has been fitted with a retractable dock shelter.
These provide an effective weather seal around the vehicle, helping to protect goods, equipment and personnel from wind and rain while reducing heat loss from the warehouse during loading operations.
Wheel Guides
New wheel guides have been installed at each loading position to assist drivers when reversing onto the loading bays.
Accurate trailer positioning improves safety while helping to reduce accidental damage to loading equipment and buildings.
Improved Internal Material Flow
The modular loading platform is accessed via purpose-built ramps, allowing safe movement between ground level and the dock system.
Two pallet safety gates have also been installed to provide controlled access between the loading platform and the warehouse storage areas, supporting efficient stock movement while maintaining a safe working environment.
Delivered Ahead of Schedule
Careful planning, close coordination and the commitment of everyone involved meant that the installation was completed one week ahead of the original construction programme.
Delivering projects safely is always our first priority, but completing works ahead of schedule also allowed the customer to begin using their new loading facility earlier than planned.
Project Outcome
The completed loading system has transformed the site's loading operation.
The customer now benefits from:
- Six fully enclosed loading bays
- Faster loading and unloading operations
- Improved protection from the weather
- Increased operational efficiency
- Safer vehicle positioning
- Better internal stock movement
- Modern loading equipment designed for long-term reliability
Another Successful Project
Projects like this demonstrate what can be achieved through careful planning, strong collaboration and experienced installation teams.
From the initial planning stages through to final commissioning, it was a pleasure working alongside our customer and everyone involved in delivering this project.
We would like to thank the customer for their continued trust in EVICK, and we look forward to supporting them with future projects.
